Finissage Stat.21

Posted by admin on September 25, 2013

Last Sunday (september 22) was the finissage @ Stat.21 in Venray. It was a very nice exhibition and I met some great new artists. Thank you Monica Croese, Bertus de Veth and Marjo de Maat! And last but not least: thank you Eric van Grootel!

The local newspaper and radiostation paid attention to the exhibition as well. I pasted the article (in dutch) and a link to the interview (in dutch) below.

The next exhibition starts coming Saturday: the Annual Dutch Art Fair. This is going to be the first time that I present my work on a large art fair, so I'm a very excited!

The interview with me and curator Eric van Grootel starts at 0:14:30: "Venray Vandaag van dinsdag 3 september, 17.00 uur

Exhibition @ Stat.21 Venray

stat21flyerA5web.jpg

Last weekend a new group exhibition started featuring work from me and three other artists: Monica Croese, Marjo de Maat and Bertus de Veth. It's amazing to see how very different types of work can still form such a strong unity when enough thought is put in while assembling and setting up an exhibition. A job well done by gallery director Eric van Grootel, all in consultation with the participating artists.

The exhibition is open for visitors every saturday and sunday (11.00 u - 17.00 u) until the 22 of september 2013.

VIP guest at 'The Talk'

Posted by admin on April 03, 2013

'The Talk' is an exhibition that opens with a discussion about the autonomy of art on the one side and the need for the art world to start a dialogue with society on the other. The subject of the discussion comes from two texts: 'The life of art', written by former Secretary of the Rotterdam Council for Arts and Culture Hugo Bongers and the article 'Let them know how much art costs' in NRC Handelsblad (january 3th 2013) by Arjo Klamer (professor of the Economics of Art and Culture at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands).

Kees Vrijdag (advisor of the Rotterdam Chamber of Commerce and winner of the Rotterdam Marketing Award) will be chairman and Hugo Bongers will be present as expert and speaker. I was invited by one of the exhibiting artists (thank you very much for the invitation Auli De!) to take part in the discussion as one of the VIP guests.

Arnhem best attended Regional Art Day ever

Posted by admin on March 10, 2013

Last week (march 3 2013) a record number of 840 vistors attended the Regional Art Day at the City Hall of Arnhem, the Netherlands. My work received lots of positive attention and this was reflected in the fact that I was voted into the top 25 of most esteemed artists of the approximately 70 exhibitors. Almost 50% of the visitors voted.

The Regional Art Days are preliminary rounds for the National Art Days. There are 8 Regional Art Days every year. One out of three artists is selected for the National Artdays. I entered two preliminary rounds (Regional Art Days in Amsterdam and Arnhem) and I am happy to say that I was selected for the National Art Days on both occasions! The National Art Days take place in november at the Van Nelle Ontwerpfabriek (Van Nelle Design Factory) instead of the former location Ahoy.

I was also offered some interesting new exhibiting oppertunities at The Regional Art Day Arnhem. I hope to learn more soon!

My work 'Siren larva' is published in the Fine Art section of the current issue (No 28) of 'Creative Quarterly, the journal of art and design'! I submitted two works in response to their open call; an international competition that takes place four times a year. Siren larva was selected for publication in the magazine, the other work I submitted was selected a runner-up. Both works are also published in the web gallery of the magazine.

New website online

Posted by admin on January 02, 2013

Welcome to my new and improved website. My old website was written in Dutch and focussed primarily on my work as a Dutch poet. But visual work is also a big part of my practice as an artist so I decided it was time for a change.

This website seems to be fully operational, and I hope not to run into any problems. But if any of you detects something 'out of order' or 'glitchy', please drop me a line below! And don't let a smooth running website stop you from leaving a comment either...

I tried to keep the pages as clear and simple as possible because the emphasis should be on the artwork and not on my skills as a graphic- or webdesigner. So no special effects, animated transitions or audio, just a black background with text and art. The website will probably grow in the months to come so please come back to visit again soon. Or subscribe to my newsletter under 'contact' and I will keep you up to date!
